This dessert is as easy as apple pie…or crisp! You assemble your crumble ingredients, then slice your apples in a neat or rustic look, your choice entirely. Bake in the oven and soon a delicious cinnamon scent takes over your senses. Highly recommend this dessert for a family bbq, served with, you guessed it, vanilla ice cream.
Variation: You can swap the apples for pears and add walnuts or pecans to the crumble.

Apple crisp with oatmeal cookie crumble
Ingredients
- Oatmeal Cookie Crumble
- 1/2 cup all purpose flour
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup old fashioned oats
- 1/4 cup light brown sugar
- 1/4 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/3 tsp baking powder
- 1/3 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp fine sea salt
- 1/3 cup unsalted butter, cut into pieces, at room temperature
- Apple Filling
- 3 1/2 lbs Granny Smith apples
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/4 cup all purpose flour
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- 1/4 tsp lemon zest
- 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.

Peel, core, and cut the apples into slices. Place in a large bowl and add remaining filling ingredients. Pour into a 9 by 12 by 2-inch baking dish.

Combine the crumble ingredients in the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with the paddle attachment. Mix on low speed for 1 minute, or until the mixture is crumbly. Sprinkle evenly over apples, covering completely.

Place the baking dish on a sheet pan and bake for 50 minutes to 1 hour, until the top is brown and the fruit is bubbly. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream.
